MICHIGAN GOES BEYOND THE SHORE.

Michigan Public has expanded its podcast slate with Beyond the Shore, a five-part series exploring the natural history, communities, and environmental challenges surrounding the Great Lakes.

Reporters travel to Lakes Huron, Michigan, Erie, Superior, and Ontario for stories ranging from freshwater surfing and ancient shipwrecks to wildlife restoration. The project shows how deeply local reporting can become an expansive podcast with appeal far beyond Michigan.

The first episode arrived May 1, 2026, followed by weekly installments through May 29. The independent journalism project was supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
